Can you get Delta 8 gummies?
By Dharma D8 | April 22, 2021
Who doesn’t love a good gummy candy? Between gummy worms, gummy bears, gummy rings, sour, and sweet, you have so many options to pick from. And that’s not even beginning to touch on the different fruit flavors that gummies tend to come in. It is one of the most diverse groups of candies, not to mention one of the yummiest. It's probably not surprising to learn that gummies are often used as a vehicle for a number of different things in being so diverse. After all, we've all seen gummy vitamins before. It's really common to find delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta 9 THC) in certain gummies. But what about delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta 8 or D8 THC)? Does that come in gummy form? Let's talk about it.
Some of the things that you need to know about Delta 8
Let’s start simple. Let’s give some definitions before we talk about the fun stuff (aka gummies).
There is a special kind of chemical compound that is only found in industrial hemp plants. They are called cannabinoids. There are over 100 different cannabinoids, including D8 THC and Delta 9 THC. The reason why cannabinoids are considered so special is that they are able to interact with something called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is a group of receptors (specifically two kinds of receptors that are known as CB1 and CB2) in your body that helps it control certain functions and reactions such as mood and appetite. Cannabinoids are able to have an effect on those functions and reactions. Because cannabinoids can interact with the ECS receptors, but how they interact with those receptors can make a difference.
Delta 9 THC’s interactions with ECS receptors are the most famous. It binds with the receptors super tightly. This causes the psychoactive feelings of euphoria that are also known as a high. As you can probably guess from the name, Delta 8 is able to have a similar effect. Delta 9 and D8 THC are quite similar but have one slight difference in their structure. This difference causes Delta 8 to bind with the receptors, but not quite as tightly as Delta 9 THC. This way, it causes a feeling of euphoria, but it’s a bit different from Delta 9 THC's.
Since we’re talking about feelings of euphoria, we should probably also talk a bit about the legality of D8 THC because it is a very common question. Technically, Delta 8 may be considered federally legal in the United States. This is a result of the 2018 Farm Bill. That version of the bill federally legalized most of the cannabinoids within the cannabis hemp plant. This included D8 THC. Some states have laws that have either continued to keep hemp illegal or have specified that Delta 8 is not legal. We would recommend looking up your local laws about Delta 8 and hemp to figure out if it’s legal in your state or not.
Okay, now that we've got all of that technical stuff out of the way, let's talk about candy!
Are Delta 8 gummies a thing?
To cover this question right off the bat, yes! D8 THC gummies most certainly are a thing. Why would you pick a gummy over another kind of Delta 8 product? Well, that’s up to you, but let’s talk about some of the reasons why.
One of the biggest reasons is flavor. If you’ve ever tried just about anything made with hemp, you’ll know that it tends to have a distinct, earthy flavor. There are a lot of people who either don’t mind or really enjoy the flavor, but there are also a number of people who just need a little extra to overcome the taste. Fellow sweet tooth friends, we understand. We tend to look for options that don't leave a strong hemp taste in our mouths. This is where gummies can come in. It’s not uncommon for the flavor of the gummy to overpower the flavor of the hemp. This can make it a much more pleasant experience.
Another reason why people love gummies has everything to do with control. With D8 THC gummies, you will always know exactly how much Delta 8 you've taken. Every gummy should be made with the same amount of hemp extract. So, you will have control over exactly how much D8 THC you use, which can really come in handy when you are trying to avoid taking too much.
Speaking of avoiding taking too much D8 THC... There is something about Delta 8 gummies that you should always bear in mind. Edibles, like gummies, can take a while to start working. It’s not uncommon not to feel anything for almost an hour unless you are taking a water soluble gummy. Onset for a water soluble gummy from DharmaD8 will bring on effects around 30 - 35 minutes and the full effects will come in one hour. You have to wait for the gummy to digest a bit before the D8 THC can be released and enter your system. One tip is to chew up the gummy in your mouth and let it dissolve instead of just swallowing it in chunks. This will help the D8 product be broken down and ready for entering the ECS. Another thing that dissolving it in your mouth does is allows you to partially consume the gummy sublingually which takes the product directly into your bloodstream. So, be patient when taking these gummies. If it’s been about two hours after you ate the first one and you still aren’t feeling anything, then you can think about eating another (or better yet, a half). You know you best, and we want to support you if you're exploring gummies for the first time.
